Abstract
42 chronically dialysed (cd) patients with end-stage renal failure underwent echocardiography and Doppler's ultrasonography twice, with a one-year interval and simultaneously, the analyses of selected risk factors for dialysed patients' hearts was carried out. It has been found that cardiac muscle (cm) hypertrophy increased during one year of dialysis, and in particular, there was an increased percentage of patients with cm hypertrophy among cd subjects and also a greater number of patients with impaired left ventricle (lv) systolic function. However, in the course of further one-year therapy with dialyses the percentage of cd patients with impaired left ventricle diastolic function did not increase. The advancement of structural changes in the hearts of cd subjects proceeds along with the drop of cholesterol and LDL levels in plasma and the rise of calcium-phosphate product. The impairment of lv systolic and diastolic functions in cd patients increases together with the decrease of triglycerides level in plasma. Lv filling in atrial period improves along with the rise of inotropic stimulus value, occurring after every dialysis (calculated in the present work as the sum of the increase of ionised calcium and the decrease of potassium concentration in plasma during the dialysis - WK).
