In this model, improper drug use (designated in the figure as “abuse”) can stimulate mitochondria and NOX, as well as other mechanisms of ROS production. We classify exogenous drugs that can lead to DILI into 2 categories: modern drugs and TCM, based on whether they consist of single compounds or mixtures.
