Gingivitis is the presence of gingival inflammation without loss of connective tissue attachment. Periodontitis is an inflammation of the tooth-supporting tissues that causes attachment loss and alveolar bone destruction. Periodontal pocket depth is measured with periodontal probe and defined as the distance between the bottom of the periodontal pocket and the gingival margin.
