Abstract

In the respiratory tract infections in children the sequential or so-called step-down form of therapy can improve the child's emotional and physical well-being at the same time reducing the hospital costs. Thirty children were included in the study and treated according to the Glaxo CXPL07 protocol. Shortening of the intravenous application of antibiotics by switching to the oral route resulted in a considerable reduction of the hospital stay and its costs; at the same time it influenced the children in a very positive way.
