Chlamydial-Secreted Protease Chlamydia High Temperature Requirement Protein A (cHtrA) Degrades Human Cathelicidin LL-37 and Suppresses Its Anti-Chlamydial Activity

Figure 2 Recombinant cHtrA can specifically cleave LL37 in vitro. Each of the AMPs (100 μg/mL) was co-incubated with variable concentrations (0, 1, 10, and 100 μg/mL) of cHtrA and 100 μg/mL of the cHtrA mutants (MT-H143A and MT-S247A) for 30 min and we analyzed the results by Western blot. cHtrA concentrations above 10 μg/mL are able to degrade LL-37, and the degradation of antimicrobial peptide required cHtrA proteolysis ability (mutants are unable to degrade LL-37).
