Abstract

Recent years have seen increased interest in the role of microelements for normal function of human body. Authors of numerous reports stress the significance of iron, magnesium and iodine for the normal function of human organism, but they also point to a harmful effect of lead and aluminium. Various reactions may take place between microelements found in human body. The aim of the study is to answer the following question: what is the behaviour of iron and magnesium in children with increased blood lead level? The study was carried out on 54 children aged 3 - 15 years, who manifested elevated blood lead level - over 20 mcg/dl. On the basis of performed investigations, it was demonstrated that there is a positive though statistically insignificant correlation between lead and magnesium, and a negative, statistically significant interrelationship between lead and iron in blood of examined children.
