Abstract
Pathogens of Enterococcus spp posing an important therapeutic problems has been isolated very often from clinical amterials in recent years. These bacteria can cause many nosocomial; and other infections, and are widely known for their resistance to antimicrobial agents. The identification of strains which are vancomycine resistant (VRE) is a very dangerous sign as these strains are usually multiresistant. The aim of the present work was to analyse the prevalence of Enterococcus spp. in clinical materials collected from patients being treated in different wards of the same hospital. We also present the evaluation of susceptibility of isolated strains with regard to vancomycine resistant ones. (VRE).It was concluded that: F. faecalis and F. faecium strains are predominanat enterococcus strains which were found in PSK No 1 hospital in Warsaw. They amount for 86.2% of isolated strains. Vancomycine appeared to be the most active agent against isolated strains in performed susceptibility examinations. Vancomycine resistant enterococci strains exist in some wards of the PSK No1 hospital.
