Management of hyperlipidemia continues to evolve and improve. The recently released report of the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) puts available data into perspective and provides the most updated consensus recommendations on the evaluation and treatment of hyperlipidemia [1]. The purpose of the report is to examine the results of 5 large-scale, randomized controlled trials with statin therapy [2–6], and to assess their implications in relation to the previously published guidelines [7].
