Abstract
Background: Owing to development of ultrasound technique, especially Doppler’s method, it is possible to estimate blood flow in vessels of a fetus and neonate.Material/Methods: On the basis of values of middle cerebral artery (MCA) and anterior cerebral artery (ACA) blood flow indices we have analyzed character of hemodynamic changes and the brain sparing phenomena in 53 newborns of diabetic mothers(IDM) suffering diabetes class PGDM and GDM. As a control group we took 29 newborns selected from normal healthy babies delivered at term. Doppler examinations were performed with ATL machine using 7 MHz transducer and pulsed and color Doppler. Blood velocity waveforms were analyzed for pulsatility (PI) and resistance (RI) indices. Results: We have found higher values of PI and RI in MCA then in ACA, in both studies group. In comparison to full - term newborns born from normal pregnancies, values of PI and RI in ACA were higher in IDM group (p
