Abstract
Background: Perceptive hypoacusis occurs among infants with a frequency range from 0.2% to 0.3% while moderate hypoacusis is observed in 0.2% - 0.4% of cases. The ABR examination is conducted to analyse the auditory brain steam response resulting from acoustic stimulation of the hearing tract between the receptor and the upper cerebral olivary nucleus.Material/Methods: Audiological examinations were carried out in 217 infants from the hypoacusis risk group. The results of otoacoustic emission examinations conducted at infant departments were compared with the results of the ABR examinations carried out at the audiological laboratory. Results: Among the obtained results 8.7% constituted false positive results and 2.3% – false negative results. Conclusions: Complete audiological diagnosis including the ABR examination must be carried out in all children from the hypoacusia risk group.
