Local factors favouring development of portal vein thrombosis

Abstract
Background: Local factors play an important role in development of portal vein thrombosis (PVT). These factors can be classified into four categories: local inflammatory lesions, injury to the portal venous system, cancer of abdominal organs and liver cirrhosis. Aim of the study: to define local factors in the patients with PVT. Material/Methods:We analyzed 35 patients with PVT (15 M, 20 F), aged 18 –80. Diagnosis was based on the presence of thrombosis signs in Doppler ultrasound examination in the portal trunk or its branches.Results:Are presented in Table 1 and 2.Conclusions:Liver cirrhosis irrespective of etiology is the most frequent local factor favoring development of PVT.
