The diagnostic criteria for autoimmune hepatitis have been established in the recent years. Since then, there has been a growing num-ber publications dealing with the course and treatment of the disease among children in medical literature. The study presents 5 patients diagnosed with AIH. No correlation between the clinical symptoms and abnormalities detected on physical examination, as well as some accessory investigations, and the course of the disease was demonstrated. Diagnostic difficulties, as well as the complica-tions that occurred in one of the patients showed during chronic sustained steroid therapy are described.
