Abstract
Background: The Δ-nef live attenuated virus vaccine approach offered in the SIV-macaque model the opportunity to identify humoral and cell-mediated immune responses associated with protection against viral infections. In addition, soluble factors different from those related to specifi c immune responses appear to correlate with the establishment and maintenance of the protective status.
