Abstract
Background:
Small bowel obstruction cased by paracecal hernia is rare, and the condition is difficult to diagnose preoperatively. We herein report a case of paracecal hernia that was successfully diagnosed and treated with laparoscopic surgery.
Case Report:
A 74-year-old man admitted our hospital. His previous medical history included appendectomy and diabetes. He had abdominal distension with slight tenderness. Abdominal image examinations gave the appearance of a small bowel obstruction. An emergency operation was performed due to the fear of strangulation. We diagnosed the paracecal hernia with laparoscopy and treated it with a mini-laparotomy. After the operation he was discharged without complications. Using the laparoscopic technique we were able to undergo a minimally invasive treatment, and the patient continues to do well.
Conclusions:
This case suggests that the laparoscopic technique is useful for diagnosing and treatment of bowel obstructions.
