Cytokine (IL-beta, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6) concentration in patients with chronic hepatitis treated with interferon-alpha

Abstract
Immunological disorders in chronic hepatitis are associated with alteration in concentrations of certain cytokines. The present study aims at assessing the effect of interferon-alpha (INF-alpha) treatment on the serum levels of IL-1 beta, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6 in patients with chronic hepatitis. Following the INF-alpha treatment, both children and adults showed increased serum IL-alpha levels as compared with those from prior to the treatment. The authors believe that assessment of serum IL-6 in patients with chronic hepatitis receiving interferon-alpha may be of prognostic significance.
