Abstract

Visual evoked potentials (VEPs) were measured between attacks in 24 patients with migraine (10-migraine without aura and 14-migraine with aura, age range 8 to 16 years), and in 30 control subjects (age range 9-15 years). The potentials were elicited by full field pattern reversal (Rev VEP) and flash (Fla VEP) and studied separately for the right and left eye. There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in mean P 100 wave latency or in mean P 100 wave amplitude (Students test), but 50% of children with migraine had P 100 wave latency more than 2SD above the control mean. Also in some patients with migraine there were some individual findings in comparison with the control group. The results of the study were analysed accroding to the duration of the disease, the frequency of attacks, the last attack, the nature of aura, the site of headache and EEG.
