In recent years interventional cardiology has extensively explored assessment methods of coronary lesion severity. Quantitative coronary arteriography (QCA) is promising but also controversial with respect to its role in common diagnostic practice. In comparison with visual assessment, the quantitative analysis is a more accurate, objective and reproducible method, which is important in determining short- and long-term effects of coronary interventions and in evaluating atherosclerotic lesions in the progression or regression of coronary artery disease. This paper presents an outline of current views on QCA.
