The allele frequency distributions of short tandem repeat HUMTH01 loci have been studied in a population of 214 individuals from South Poland. Distribution of the observed allelic frequencies and genotype frequencies are presented. No deviation from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium of genotype frequencies were found in our data. Negligible genetic distances between our and other European data confirm that this South Poland sample is representative of the Polish population. The HUMTH01 system is thus suitable for forensic casework and for linkage studies in psychiatric disorders and insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.
