Abstract
Coeliac disease is a frequent cause of malabsorption syndromes. However, it is not often diagnosed among adult patients in Poland. More frequent detectability of coeliac disease in western countries results probably from a greater awareness of its occurrence as well as taking it into consideration during differential diagnosis. Nevertheless, the establishment of diagnosis in the case of coeliac disease is usually delayed. This is true particularly of patients who do not manifest numerous symptoms or a typical course of the disease, which occurs mostly in adult or elderly patients. Even the disease with typical course remains quite often undetected in some patients. The present work is devoted to the description of delayed diagnosis of coeliac disease in a 36 year-old woman, in the case of whom the clinical course of this disease may be regarded typical.
