Mitral valve prolapse syndrome is a frequently diagnosed pathology of child's circulatory system. After over 100 years since its first description (Cuffer and Barbillon, 1887) the etiopathogenesis as well as the symptomatology of this syndrome has not been fully explained. The authors of the present study analyse a clinical picture of the mitral valve prolapse syndrome, on the basis of their own study material including over 45 cases. It was found, with the use of Greenwood classification, that nearly half of examined MVP cases were asymptomatic. Furthermore, a normal physical development was observed in a vast majority of children. Most often, scoliosis was diagnosed as a result of the analysis of anomalies in chest structure.
