Abstract
The aim of the study was an assessment of risk factors (hypertension coronary disease, arrhythmia, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidaemia, higher haematocrit values) as well as patients' age and sex, with regard to the seriousness of cerebral ischaemic stroke. The sample consisted of 1697 patients treated because of the ever-first stroke within the anterior region of cerebral circulation. The sample was divided into three groups A, B and C, according to stroke severity. The latter was determined by the degree of cerebral dysfunction with the help of Clinical Groups of the Whole Body Motorics (CG WBM), which is a three-grade classification originally designed in the Teaching Hospital of Neurology of Medical University in Bydgoszcz.
Conclusions: the analysis of data revealed that the severity of ischaemic stroke within the anterior region of cerebral circulation increased together with patients' age, the frequency of arrhythmia, diabetes mellitus and higher haematocrit values.
