The aim of the present work was the comparative evaluation of AFP level in blood serum of children with diagnosed chronic hepatitis B and with chronic carrier state of HbsAg. 63 children were included in the study (39 of them with histopathologically diagnosed chronic hepatitis and 24 with chronic HBs antigenemia). It was found that AFP level in blood serum was higher in the group of children with chronic hepatitis B (mean 8.9 ng/ml) than in group of HbsAg carriers (mean 3.0 ng/ml). The difference was statistically significant.
