Abstract
The aim of the present work was to analyse the mass as well as systolic and diastolic function of left heart ventricle in children with congenital hypothyroidism (CHT). The investigation included 19 children aged 1-17 years with permanent CHT, who have been treated with a substitutive dose of L-thyroxin since the 2nd-3rd week of life. The morphological and functional evaluation of left ventricle was performed with an echocardiographic unit Sonos 1000 Hewlett Packard. The examined group of children with CHT was compared with a control group of healthy children with no cardiac or thyroid diseases detectable in anamnesis. The results revealed that the parameters characterising systolic and diastolic function in both groups were normal. CHT patients demonstrated a statistically significant decrease in LVM and LVMi, when compared with the control group.
