Abstract

Aggressive angiomyxoma is a distinct, locally infiltrative, non-metastasizing mesenchymal tumour with a high propensity for local recurrence. Since the first description by Steeper and Rosai in 1983 [1], a total of 116 cases have been reported which occurred exclusively in the pelvis and perineum. It was originally thought that this disease always occurred in females, however 15 male cases have been described. We report the first case of an aggressive angiomyxoma arising in the upper lateral abdominal wall which is outside the usual area of distribution in a seventy six year old man and a review of the surgical aspects of aggressive angiomyxoma.
