Recent years have been marked with a continuous increase in the frequency of allergic diseases. For a number of years, this tendency was associated with growing air pollution as a result of civilisation, urbanisation and industrialisation. The present analysis of children with pulmonary diseases from the region of Gdansk and Elbl1g was an attempt to correlate the frequency of atopic diseases with children's place of residence and air pollution. There turned to be no immediate relationship between the frequency of allergic diseases and air pollution. It seems that a long-term observation of these patients may help to propose appropriate preventive measures for the diseases of respiratory tract.
